Under the theme “Partnership to End Violence Against Women: A Look at Efforts to Combat Female Genital Mutilation,” Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality organized a discussion session as part of their “Violence Against Women = Violence Against Society” campaign within the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The session, held on Zoom, featured:

The session was moderated by Ms. Nagwa Ramadan, Executive Director of Edraak Foundation.
As part of the Life and Protection Project to combat violence against women and girls, Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality, in collaboration with the EuroMed Feminist Initiative, organized a series of awareness seminars for 30 women from the Al-Basateen area. The sessions focused on the harmful effects of FGM on girls’ physical and psychological health and well-being. Dr. Norhan Salama, a specialist and trainer in sexual and reproductive health, led the seminar.
Discussions with attendees highlighted the futility of FGM and its short-term physical and long-term psychological and health impacts on girls. It was emphasized that FGM is a harmful traditional practice, not a religious one, and is a form of domestic violence against girls and women.
As part of the “Life and Protection” project to combat violence against women and girls, Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality, in cooperation with EuroMed Feminist Initiative, organized a series of awareness seminars for 30 women from the Basateen area. These seminars focused on the mechanisms of electronic protection and digital safety to combat extortion and online violence on social media. The seminar was led by Mr. Ahmed Tarek, a researcher in media issues and digital safety.
As part of the “Life and Protection” project to combat violence against women and girls, Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality, in cooperation with EuroMed Feminist Initiative, organized a series of awareness seminars for 30 women from the Basateen area. These seminars focused on how to face the pressures and psychological impact of violence and ways to resolve family conflicts.
Dr. Basma Mahmoud, a mental health specialist and researcher in women’s issues, was the speaker at the seminar.
This intervention followed a community needs assessment conducted by the foundation to implement future developmental interventions.
Edraak extends its gratitude to the 25 volunteers from the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Arts at Helwan University who participated in the implementation.
The Foundation launched the campaign during the 16 Days of Activism to Combat Violence Against Women in 2020.
The campaign targeted the publication of the 2020 report of the Violence Against Women and Girls Crimes Observatory by focusing on showing the percentages of honor killings, domestic violence killings, rape, suicide, and sexual harassment.

Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality held its second online webinar as part of its campaign activities during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Continuing its campaign “Violence Against Women = Violence Against Society,” Edraak organized a session on Zoom titled “Partnership to End Violence Against Women (Legislative and Legal Mechanisms to Reduce the Phenomenon of Sexual Violence Against Women).”

The organization launched this campaign in May 2020 in conjunction with World Menstrual Hygiene Day, in partnership with and funded by the Love Matters Project and the Tadwien Foundation for Gender Studies. The campaign aimed to challenge negative misconceptions about the menstrual cycle and menstrual management.
