As part of the Life and Protection Project to combat violence against women and girls, Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality, in collaboration with the EuroMed Feminist Initiative, organized a series of awareness seminars for 30 women from the Al-Basateen area. The sessions focused on the harmful effects of FGM on girls’ physical and psychological health and well-being. Dr. Norhan Salama, a specialist and trainer in sexual and reproductive health, led the seminar.
Discussions with attendees highlighted the futility of FGM and its short-term physical and long-term psychological and health impacts on girls. It was emphasized that FGM is a harmful traditional practice, not a religious one, and is a form of domestic violence against girls and women.
