Gender-based journalism

The press, as it is often called, represents the fourth estate that controls and shapes public opinion. Like many other fields, journalism has been lacking in addressing women’s issues and the social gender perspective. Therefore, the institution has ensured that those working in journalism and content creation are among the targeted groups. Through training, efforts have been made to increase their knowledge of the concept of social gender and how to work on journalistic coverage. The training also aimed to familiarize them with the legal rights of women and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical reality. This was achieved by hosting the “And She Has Other Faces” platform, which is a leading model in feminist journalism, to introduce trainees to the challenges facing feminist journalism in the Egyptian context. Finally, the training addressed the ethics of documenting the experiences of survivors of gender-based violence.
