Dr. Norhan Salama, a specialist and trainer in sexual and reproductive health, led the seminar.

Dafa (Warmth) Campaign

As part of its commitment to empowering marginalized families in the Al-Basatin area and ensuring a dignified and sustainable life for them, Edraak, in collaboration with the Etisalat Foundation for Community Development and Welfare and the Clothing Bank, carried out an urgent humanitarian intervention for women and children in the Mazareta area of Al-Basatin. This was the first phase of the foundation’s community work in the area, targeting the distribution of shelter and protection necessities to 600 families. The second phase will involve economic empowerment projects for women and a community school for children.

This intervention followed a community needs assessment conducted by the foundation to implement future developmental interventions.

Edraak extends its gratitude to the 25 volunteers from the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Arts at Helwan University who participated in the implementation.

“Violence against women…violence against society.”

As part of the 2020 “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” the Edraak Foundation launched the campaign: #Violence_Against_Women = Violence_Against_Society..

The campaign aimed to raise awareness and disseminate key findings from the 2020 report issued by the Observatory for Gender-Based Violence Crimes Against Women and Girls. It focused particularly on alarming statistics related to so-called “honor” killings, femicides resulting from domestic abuse, rape, suicide, and sexual harassment.

The campaign conveyed a critical message: violence against women is a global crisis that can escalate to fatal outcomes. Approximately 38% of women murdered worldwide are killed by their intimate partners or spouses. This form of violence is never isolated — it perpetuates a horrifying, self-reinforcing cycle that threatens the safety, cohesion, and well-being of society as a whole.
To achieve its objectives, the campaign featured:

  • A series of infographics based on documented crimes from the Observatory’s report, illustrating the prevalence and patterns of violence against women and girls.
  • Articles addressing the urgent need to break the cycle of societal violence and challenge harmful norms.
  • A self-defense training session using the Wen-Do technique — a specialized method developed for women and girls that teaches practical physical strategies to target an attacker’s vulnerable points, fostering both safety and empowerment.
    •
